We have ordered a second container of 1,500 stoves scheduled for delivery in February 2014 – and requests for stoves already far exceed that significant commitment.
People are using the stoves.
They are cooking with a 75% reduction in fuel use – taking much less precious wood out of the environment, and saving time gathering what they need.
Household Air Pollution (HAP) is dramatically reduced. Use of less wood because of more efficient combustion and the addition of our Nepal-made chimney system results in almost 100% of the smoke being evacuated from the home.
We have improved the design and fabrication of the chimney system for lower cost and lighter weight (reduced transport costs).
Food cooks faster, and stays warm longer on the stove.
Some clever users stack the wood under the cooking area, which helps the wood to dry faster, also adding to the overall efficiency.
They have also discovered that they can use much smaller twigs (rather than chopping down trees and splitting the logs), which further reduces the de-forestation (and saves time).
There are no open fires for toddlers to tumble into.
